I love when my kids try to say something, they have a difficult time pronouncing. It has always made Geoff and I secretly laugh..we still say those words incorrectly for giggles. Cooper used to have a terrible time saying "napkin"..it always came out "nakpin" it makes me laugh just typing it! He used to say it so nonchalant, like..that was they way it was supposed to spoken "will you pass me the nakpin?" hilarious! He had the same trouble with New York..he couldn't say that either..it came out "Yew Nork" seriously, still giggling, i feel terrible for finding this humorous..but I just can't help myself. If we dare, even think of saying "nakpin" in front of him..we get the evil eye! He knows exactly what we are doing, and gets super mad..I want him to find it funny too, but he just doesn't. I guess all those years of trying so hard to get him to say it correctly, left him with somewhat of a complex. If we say "Yew Nork" most of the time he won't even catch it. Kortlyn, has some issues too, she can't say SKELETON..try as she might, its just not happening. She will practie when she thinks no one is listening.."SKELL-A-SKIN...SKE-LA-SKIN...SSSS..KELLA-SKIN!" Bless her heart. I will correct her and she will say it correctly at that moment, but let her loose on it and its all wrong. She KILLS me! That's why I love her.
EDIT Oct. 9,2010: I wrote this post last night after listening to Kortlyn practice saying skeleton. This morning Kyn comes to me asking for a snack. She says, " Mom, I ha hum sack?" I said, "you want a snack?" Kyn replies with a quick "yes!"..I asked her if she could say "SNACK"..and she said "SACK" I began to enunciate "SSSNNNN" and she follows with "SSSSSSAAAA" I say " Kyn, it's, "SSNNN, NNN...NNNN" and she then repeats at the exact same time.."SSAAAA...AAAA!" She totally knows exactly what she wants and what she is trying to say. I know it is to be expected for a 2 year old to say words incorrectly, but this was just so funny to me. I cherish these little moments. They were, and still are, so sweet and innocent. I am thankful for the humor everyday.
